There are three main types of ceilings. Conventional, suspended, and concrete. Below we will go into their defining features and what products are best to use with them.
Conventional Ceilings are the most standard ceiling you will find in most buildings and are typically made of plaster or drywall. These ceilings are flat with a finished surface and found in most homes, offices and other buildings.
Green Magic has a range of products suitable for hanging signs from conventional ceilings. These fittings are able to screw into the drywall or plaster. Our two main fittings are our U.SCA (Screw Ceiling Anchor) and our U.CYL (Cylindrical Ceiling Gripper) but there’s also our U.DOME (Dome Slotted Anchor). These can all be used with a range of our hooks, panel grippers, and loops to display any sign.
Suspended Ceilings are a common type of ceiling you will find most in retail shops and some commercial buildings. These are also referred to as drop ceilings and typically see acoustic ceiling tiles fitted between a metal t-bar grid which is suspended below an existing ceiling.
The right fittings for these ceilings are able to clip onto the metal grid between the tiles. Our two main fittings are our U.TCA (Twist On Ceiling Anchor) and our U.SUS (Suspended Ceiling Twist On Gripper). These can all be used with a range of our hooks, panel grippers, and loops to displays any sign. We also have magnetic hooks and grid clips which can be used alongside double ended hooks for smaller signs and projects.
Concrete ceilings are less common but can be found in multi-storey buildings and some commercial offices and warehouses. They are usually formed from the underside of a concrete slab which forms the floor above, therefore becoming a ceiling too.
As these are less commonly used for hanging signs, we have a smaller range of fittings suitable for this type of ceiling. We do, however, have a suspension kit compatible for concrete ceilings.
Well, how long is a piece of string? There is no ‘best’ ceiling. They all have their pros and cons and their place in society today. Hopefully, this has helped you identify which ceiling you have and options for what can be used alongside them to display your signs appropriately and safely.
